About BioPet

BioPet Vet Lab (A Division of EDP Biotech Corporation) is a regional clinical reference laboratory located in Knoxville, TN which is focused on the continued enhancement of animal health care through its reference laboratory testing and its continued DNA animal research.

BioPet’s reference laboratory is a veterinary diagnostic laboratory dedicated to providing veterinarians the best in laboratory medicine. Our mission is to work closely with the local veterinary community, to provide reliable and accurate laboratory results, efficient and prompt courier services, rapid turnaround on test results, and personalized service, conscientious attention to the work performed cost effectively for the veterinary practitioner.

BioPet’s DNA animal research activities are mainly in gene mapping and discovery programs for a number of species. These programs will give a greater understanding of the genome of other mammals, leading to a new generation of diagnostic tests which can be used to improve the healthcare and quality of life for pets.

The first product from this DNA animal research is the BioPet DNA Breed Identification Test, which is being launched direct to consumers on Jan 1st 2008. This test will allow owners of mixed breed dogs to have an accurate analysis of the genetic history of their pet, enabling them to get a better understanding of behavioral traits and long term health problems. The BioPet DNA Breed Identification also includes a free DNA Identification card that can be retained by the owner to use as proof of animal identity if ever required. Later in 2008, BioPet will launch the a veterinarian only product, the BioPet DNA HealthScreen which will facilitate the earliest detection of genetic disorders in an individual animal, allowing owners and veterinarians to devise specific treatment and dietary programs.

By improving the quality of information available to Pet Owners and Veterinarians, BioPet will enable owners to ensure that they have the longest and most rewarding relationship possible with “man’s best friend”.
